Can Do Health & Care - Thinking Differently November Financial Sustainability 2020

1 | Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care System In September 2019, Suffolk and North East Essex ICS participated in a national study of NHS Financial Management and Sustainability by the National Audit Office (NAO). The report of this study and an accompanying review of capital expenditure in the NHS were published in February 2020 and can be accessed using the links below. Our event, which was part of a series supporting our System Leaders to discuss how we can further consolidate and strengthen the way that we work as an Integrated Care System, explored the outcomes of the NAO’s reports as well as more recent developments. It also provided our System Leaders with an opportunity to share reflections on subsequent system development locally and nationally. The event brought together members of the ICS Board, ICS Chairs Group, ICS Directors of Finance Group and ICS Estates Group. The event was led by Robert White, Director of the Health Value for Money Team at the NAO and his colleague David Xu, and chaired by Professor Will Pope, ICS Independent Chair. It helps to hold government departments and the bodies it audits to account for how they use public money (£1.7 trillion in 2019-20). In 2019-20, the NAO published 42 Value for Money reports and 18 departmental overviews, certified over 400 accounts and carried out 14 investigations.
